Mindfulness for Kids
The program is designed to teach children about mindfulness and why it can be beneficial to practice. They will learn ways to help them be present in the moment.
According to Hooker and Fodor (2008), mindfulness for children can improve attention, focus, memory, self-understanding and self-acceptance. In addition, mindfulness helps to alleviate anxiety by focusing on the present rather than the worries about the future (Hooker & Fodor, 2008).
Topics covered in the seven week Mindfulness Program include, being attentive to your environment, mindfulness eating, and acknowledgment and acceptance of thoughts and feelings.
Program Goals
- To develop participants understanding of what mindfulness is through a variety of activities.
- To increase participants awareness of the present moment.
- To help participants develop awareness of their thoughts, their feelings and their environment.
