While the LDATD offers many services to children and adults across the GTA, there are many resources available on the Internet for those living with a learning disability, ADD/ADHD or both.

We have collected numerous valuable links for your perusal and we encourage you to take advantage of these links located below.

LDATD does not endorse these resources, but we do endorse the right for you to know about them.

The following Canadian online resources focus on the Greater Toronto Area, although some links may be for organizations, foundations or individuals located in other cities or provinces.

Government & Legal

Advocacy Resource Centre for the Handicapped ARCH

 

  • ARCH is a non-profit community legal clinic dedicated to defending the rights of people with disabilities in Ontario and serves as a legal resource centre for persons with disabilities.

Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education is responsible for the administration of laws relating to education and skills training in Ontario.

Canada Revenue Agency – Information for Persons with Disabilities

This site lists publications about alternative filing methods and accommodations for persons with all kinds of disabilities.

Employment

Jewish Vocational Services

The JVS Employment Center works closely with community agencies to provide adults with learning disabilities with employment and planning services, mentorship programs, internships, volunteer placements, job shadowing and training opportunities.

Education & Self-Help

Skills for Living

Dr. Audrey Huberman's SKILLS FOR LIVING teaches the skills that build social-emotional intelligence in parents, children, teens, adults, parents of multiples and families. Families and parents of all forms manage the complexities of parenting and family life while individuals of all ages improve their current level of social-emotional functioning.

Toronto Family Network

The Toronto Family Network is a rapidly growing group of parents, brothers, sisters, and friends who have come together to promote the inclusion and well-being of family members who have disabilities. Parents have become involved through the Network to share information and experiences and offer and receive moral and practical support around common issues. Parents share knowledge that cannot be obtained from any source other than "walking in one's shoes". The Toronto Family Network is affiliated with the Family Alliance Ontario and many other parent networks. For more information on this organization, please contact (416) 484-1536.

S.E.A.side

Special Equipment Amount provides school boards funding to assist with the cost of purchasing equipment necessary to support students with special needs, to access the Ontario curriculum.

Learning Disabilities Association of Canada LDAC

The LDAC is a national association committed to providing public education on learning disabilities across Canada.

Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario LDAO

The LDAO is a provincial organization under the LDAC. The LDAO is committed to helping children and adults with learning disabilities across the province.

Online Communities

Ability Online

Ability OnLine is an electronic mail system connecting young people with disabilities or chronic illnesses to disabled and non-disabled peers and mentors. It also provides disabled youngsters and their families with current information on medical treatments, educational strategies and employment opportunities.

The Learning Disabilities Resource Community

The LDRC is a virtual information community open to anyone affected by learning disabilities, either as an individual with a learning disability, a parent, teacher, researcher, or a concerned community member. The LDRC is a place to gain knowledge about learning disabilities, discover new teaching and educational tools, share information and experiences, and contribute to a greater understanding of the "hidden disability".

ADD/ADHD Specific

ADD Toronto

With listings covering Toronto and Southern Ontario, ADD Toronto is an ADD resource site directed at families and those with Attention Deficit Disorders.

Attention Deficit Disorder Awareness Program Team
ADDAPT

ADDAPT offers adult/parent support groups and monthly meetings. This program attempts to present a variety of views to support children and their families who are living with ADD/ADHD. For more information, please call: 416-395-1700.

Parents in Partnership

Parents in Partnership provide information and support to parents with ADD/ADHD children. They meet on the 4th Thursday of every month at the Kimbourne United Church (side door), 200 Wolverleigh Blvd, from 7p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, please call: 416-469-3002.

LD Specific

Bloorview MacMillan Childrens' Centre

Bloorview's mission is to "enable children and youth with disabilities and special needs to achieve their personal best." The Centre runs events that are related to learning disabilities such as Individual Education Plan workshops.
Integra

Integra is a childrens' mental health Centre in Toronto. Its focus is helping children and adolescents with LD-related social, emotional and behavioural problems.

Workshops

Free IEP 101 Workshop On-line provided by LDAO

The Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario, in a project funded by the Ministry of Education, has created an on-line workshop for dealing with IEP’s.

This free workshop, entitled IEP 101 Online Workshop for Parents and Students, covers a wide variety of subjects from the basic special education legal parameters, through the student profile, and the creation of strategies, accommodations, and modifications.
